R13 designer Chris Leba took a stand for the environment last February when he presented a Fall/Winter 2018 collection full of images of owls, eagles, trees, and other American wildlife. The collection also included activist-wear, which were printed with images from protests advocating for the protection of the Diné Bikéyah, or Navajo land, in Utah. Over 5,000 protesters rallied outside the state capitol in Salt Lake City last December to defend the Colorado Plateau and the Bears Ears National Monument against President Trump’s plans to reduce the acreage of these environmental wonders for drilling and mining.

Several pieces from the Protect Utah capsule collection will be available to purchase for a limited time, with 100 percent of the profits being donated to the Ute Political Action Committee and the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance. Both the Ute PAC and SUWA were key players in organizing the protests, from which the images used in the collection were captured.

The collection not only protects the environment, but also tradition within indigenous communities. The Colorado Plateau and Bears Ears National Monument are ancestral grounds with connections to at least five Native American tribes in southern Utah.

The charitable capsule collection features four styles, including a pullover hoodie, a crew neck sweatshirt, and two sweatpants, which are all printed with a variation of images from the protest.

The sweatshirts are priced at 5 and the sweatpants at 0, and are available now on R13demin.com.
