After a 25-year tenure at the helm of British Vogue, Alexandra Shulman announced that would she would be stepping down from her role as editor in chief of the publication this past January. Today, it’s been confirmed that Edward Enninful will replace her. The appointment of Ghanian-born, but British-raised Enninful marks two major firsts in the magazine’s 100-year history: He will be the first person of color to hold the position of editor in chief, as well as being the only-ever male to head up the title.

Enninful has been a fixture on the international fashion scene since his late teens. He was scouted on a train and became a model at 16, before going on to become the youngest-ever fashion director of i-D Magazine at just 18. Since then, he’s made his mark on major fashion campaigns and in his role as creative and fashion director of W. Last year, he received an Order of the British Empire for his services to increasing diversity in the fashion industry.

Enninful will begin his new role on August 1st, 2017.
