After debuting the capsule in its Spring/Summer 2020 collection at Paris Fashion Week Men’s, the Japanese label Facetasm has now unveiled the complete collaboration with Levi’s. With the theme of Mutation running throughout the collection, designer Hiromichi Ochiai took the literal approach for his twist on Levi’s classic items. Facetasm completely reconstructed the American clothing brand’s jeans, trucker jackets, Western shirts, and graphic tees to create an unconventional and playful 15-piece collaboration.
Known for its deconstructive approach to design, Facetasm operates by taking something apart and piecing it back together to create attire that is both innovative and wearable for all genders. For this specific collaboration that approach included adding the brand’s signature silhouette to the the Type I and Type III trucker jackets, transforming a biker jacket into a “Biker’s Trucker,” and shredding and deconstructing a deerskin Linked Trucker. These twists and turns can also be seen in the collab’s jeans and pants with their ultra-twisted seams to create some of Facetasm’s most original designs in the collection.
The collection also features Facetasm’s mutilated take on classic Levi’s Western shirts, as well as some more low-key pieces like a graphic tee and patchwork hoodie that still hold true to the Japanese brand’s eye-catching details.
“At Facetasm we are always fascinated by the history of design. Of course, Levi’s has a long history with denim and it has been very inspiring to visit the headquarters’ archives in San Francisco,” Ochiai said. “For me, it’s very valuable to start with something that has such a long tradition and try to innovate it in order to give it new value.”
The Levi’s X Facetasm capsule collection will be available globally in March 2020.
