Blasts from the Pasts Are Back in Fashion

The only thing that the world loves more than a reveal is a second coming, and fashion is not immune. From animated resuscitations on the runway à la Jeremy Scott to afterparty performances at Alexander Wang by Ashanti and Ja Rule, sentimentality has never been more stylish—especially when one can wear it. Somewhere between merch mayhem and peak nostalgia, four musical icons have resurfaced recently in the form of collaborative lines that have us reeling in our seats and reaching for Spotify.

N*E*R*D and Adidas

Following a seven-year hiatus, the infamous, Pharrell-fronted group is back with funky music, fashion, and Rihanna. Timed with their new, as-yet-untitled album, the trio teamed up with Adidas on a camo-coated collection created alongside Korean artist Buzcha. Of course, it’s hardly the “Happy” singer’s first circus with the sportswear giant—having dropped one-offs several times over the last for years—but for the outfit, which stands for No-one Ever Really Die, it’s a hit at first swing.

Kim Gordon for & Other Stories

Legendary Sonic Youth superstar Kim Gordon partnered with & Other Stories for a fashionable take on motherhood and femininity. Handwritten messages and artwork decorate the singer and artist’s oversized pullovers for the H&M-clothier, replete with fleshy colors and an eccentricity for performance as much as poetry.

Wu-Tang Clan and Live Nation

Established in 1995, Wu Wear was an immeasurable influence on hip-hop fashion before it retired in 2008. Nearly a decade later, it’s back for the holidays in a brand new, unisex line in partnership with Live Nation Merchandise. Teasing a fully realized collection next season—which will be the group’s own 25th anniversary—the assortment releases classic Clan styles in fashionable fits for now.

The Beatles and Alice + Olivia

While Abbey Road has been visited and revisited time and time again, Stacey Bendet’s new capsule marks the first time a women’s brand has given its fashion spin on the original boy band. Featuring clothing and accessories inspired by the pop group’s most memorable motifs, the 15-piece Alice + Olivia assortment will have all wearers coming together.
