Claude Monet’s greatest workspace was the lack of a specific station itself. Born in Paris on November 14, 1840, Monet’s artistic eye blossomed early. He began attending art school at age 11, by which point was already selling his charcoal caricatures and sketches. At 16 he met artist Eugène Boudin, who became an integral mentor and introduced the young Monet to oil painting and working outdoors. Over the course of his historic career, Monet rejected traditional art practices of the time, instead embracing nature, fresh air, and light as his inspiration. His impressionist legacy, from people-centric scenes to his water lily ponds, flourished as he grew a massive backyard garden as his studio. On what would have been his 179th birthday, CR reveals an all-access look in Monet’s legendary studio and sprawling Giverny gardens.
