Since the first race in 1970, the TCS New York City Marathon has garnered a world-renowned reputation with its impressive 26.2 mile course, running through five boroughs of the urban landscape. The TCS NYC Marathon is the largest in the world, with 50,000 participants and almost twice the number of applicants. Bringing runners together from all over the world, the marathon makes a global impact as many choose to race for a cause– million was raised for charities last year. For yesterday’s race, CR’s own Vladimir Restoin Roitfeld returned to the TCS NYC Marathon, leading Keep a Child Alive’s team in its mission to cross the finish line and raise 0,000.
Co-founded by Alicia Keys in 2003, KCA provides emergency relief to vulnerable children, youth, adults, and families facing the global AIDS crisis. The non-profit aims to address and combat the physical, social, and economic impacts of HIV and AIDS, working on a local level in countries including Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa, Uganda, and India. Serving over 120,000 people annually, KCA empowers people through its informational resources, treatment services, and counseling.
This year, KCA officially launched Team KCA, an initiative to use sports to spread awareness and raise funds for its programs. For the marathon, Team KCA, consisting of 11 runners led by Restoin Roitfeld, ran to promote the cause and showcase the impactful work of the organization’s partners. Team KCA invites people of all fitness levels to get involved in its mission, as long as they are ready to get active and raise awareness.
