After high demand, Australian bath and body brand Aesop has finally entered the world of home candles launching its first aromatic line in collaboration with master perfumer Barnabé Fillion. Composed of three new scents–Ptolemy, Aganice, and Callippus, the aromatic candle trio takes the names of three ancient stargazers drawing inspiration from mythology and astronomy.

The first in its lineup, Ptolemy, emanates a deep, majestic forest as its blends of cypress, cedar, and vetiver collide in the formulation with a gentle smokiness. Elsewhere, Aganice is marked by an amalgam of the floral brightness of Mimosa and a warm, spicy undertone of cardamom and tobacco. Lastly, resinous frankincense coalesces with woody green of vetiver in Callippus, kindling an earthiness perfect for a relaxing day at home.

Drawing on ancient tale, the collection is rooted in scientific innovation propelling traditional candle making techniques into the future. “Scientific rigour worked hand-in-hand with ardent intellectual curiosity, and tradition with innovation,” explains Dr Kate Forbes, Aesop’s Innovation Director. The new scents are encapsulated in vegan-friendly, cruelty-free candle wax that is contained in alabaster ceramic vessels which can be repurposed for other home uses once the candle is burned up.

Aesop partners with Paris-based artist Mattis Dovier in the visuals for the candle collection. Best known for reinterpreting lithography with digital animation and pixel art, Dovier’s original paintings for Aesop illustrate a tamed ocean giving away to a clear, starry midnight sky.

The Aesop’s Aromatique collection is now available in stores and online.
