One of the greatest female stars in classic Hollywood Cinema is continuing her legacy as she ages she proves there’s no shortage of a film role. Time is Loren’s friend as she shares the everlasting spotlight in the moving pictures. 2021 is the year of Loren as she is featured in two films this year, The Life Ahead and What Would Sophia Loren Do? It makes sense why Loren made a significant comeback in cinema this year, with the world looking gruesome due to the pandemic, we all need an inspirational figure to keep our hopes up, Loren does so effortlessly with her impeccable style and passion for cinematic arts which transformed her from a poor Italian beauty contestant winner into an internationally acclaimed actress.

The Oscar-nominated film star Sophia Loren returns back to the silver screen starring in The Life Ahead directed by her son, Edoardo Ponti, the 86 year-old actress plays a Holocaust survivor and former prostitute, Madam Rosa who develops a bond with a Muslim, orphan, and Senegalese, Momo (played by Ibrahima Gueye). World War II hits deep for Loren, as she used to hide in the shelters and tunnels at night when the allied forces struck her hometown, Naples. The family bond is in wraps in this Capri meets Hollywood film, directed by her son Edoardo Ponti for the third time in a row. Ponti was inspired by his favorite novel “The Left Before Us,” by Romain Gary in his teenage years to direct a film on two different people who meet. The new feature is set to release on Netflix on January 15, 2021.

In the documentary film What Would Sophia Loren Do? directed by filmmaker Ross Kauffman also premieres on Netflix on January 15, 2021, is an homage to the actress whose face whose been set on the silver screen since 1950, her eight decades in the film keeps her going as she has no intention of retiring any time soon, the Italian film star is in every aspect of the Italian-American grandmother, Nancy “Vincenza Careri” Kulik who says to her daughter Regina, “Sophia is there, she’s going to help you all the time,” no matter how good or challenging times can get. Loren is the image for the Kulilk family, where the film roles reflect back into the circle of life. In Two Women, Loren depicts a strong woman, the widow Eleanora Brown who does all that she can to protect her child, during the horrors of World War II but asks the question “to what point?” because life’s circumstances don’t ensure protection for the child, a struggle all parents face. Kulik, cycles back to Two Women (1960) because of her own faults with her sons as a mother. Ultimately Loren changed the world of cinema in the film directed by Italian neorealist Vittoria De Sica which transformed the Italian actress into an international one capturing acclaims from the Cannes Film Festival, BAFTA, and the Oscars. This transformed Sophia Loren’s image from a sex symbol to a credible actress. She changed film history by being the first performer in a foreign language film to win Best Actress at the Academy. Loren was not present to accept her award because she didn’t think she stood a chance with five other American actresses set for the nomination.

The actress makes the best of what she has naturally and presents her alluring beauty in a fun way. Loren herself has transformed through her life from the impoverished girl with the nickname “toothpick,” to a style icon with voluptuous curves and deep eyes, Loren stars as Adelina in Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow, (1954) as she dances and undresses with a black sexy bustier and garter belt, teaching Nancy the spicy ways to keep her marriage with Alan all the more stylish. Loren herself married the Italian film producer Carlo Ponti, the man who adored her and supported her career since she was 16. Their stable marriage is the message of the legitimate and legal marriage with children in Marriage Italian Style (1964), the rags to riches love story is similar to the beloved 90’s classic Pretty Woman. Where in both scenarios a poor prostitute (Loren and Julia Roberts) marry rich businessmen (Marcello Mastroianni and Richard Gere), both films acquired critical acclaim with Golden Globe nominations.

Thanks to Loren’s son Eduardo and Nancy’s daughter, film producer Regina K. Scully, Nancy, and Loren meet with an instant bond in this heart-warming documentary short.
