Aaron Philip Breaks the Mold as the Star of Latest Moschino Campaign

Marie Antoinette gets a makeover in Moschino’s new campaign, courtesy of creative director Jeremy Scott, photographers Luigi and Iango, and trailblazing young model Aaron Philip. The dramatic black and white imagery sees the model beneath a lofty braided pompadour ‘do in one photograph, hooded by a sweatshirt under a leather moto jacket, and in another photo, transparently covered by a black lace eye mask. With period pieces from ruffled collars to lace-up knee-high platform boots, Philip has executed her first major campaign like a pro.
Making her way in mainstream fashion, this experience marks Philip’s first large-scale high fashion campaign. As the very first Black, trans, disabled model to sign to a leading agency, Elite Model Management New York in 2018, Philip is paving the way for those who may not subscribe to traditional standards of beauty and is breaking the mold for seas of people who have been disproportionately underrepresented.
At the mere age of 19, Philip is a sight for sore eyes and a breath of fresh air. Previously featured in Sephora beauty campaigns and even Miley Cyrus’ Mother’s Daughter music video, the rising star has appeared in some of fashion’s top publications, been shot by acclaimed photographer Tyler Mitchell, and most recently modeled for Collina Strada’s digital runway presentation. Philip took to Instagram to express her excitement for the campaign and what it means for physically disabled people.
“My first major fashion campaign. I made it this far. I don’t know what to say, I’m just so grateful and love everybody involved with all my heart.” She went onto say in another post, “I’ve been too shell shocked to try and say anything prolific, but this is SUCH A BIG DEAL BEING A PHYSICALLY DISABLED PERSON/MODEL IN A CAMPAIGN LIKE THIS. I really am so so very happy and I hope the community is too! This is the start! More REAL space for us!”
