Project Runway has had the monopoly on fashion design-focused TV since 2004, but this year streaming services Netflix and Amazon Prime Video will be joining the genre. The first will be Netflix’s Next in Fashion, which just announced its premiere on January 29. The show features 18 designers competing for 0,000 and the opportunity to have their collection sold on Net-a-porter.

Along with hosts Tan France (Queer Eye) and model/designer Alexa Chung, Next in Fashion will include other familiar names in fashion as guest judges, including Net-a-Porter’s global buying director Elizabeth Von Der Goltz, Instagram’s Eva Chen, and stylist Elizabeth Stewart, in addition to designers Prabal Gurung, Christopher Kane, Tommy Hilfiger, and more.

As for the contestants, several already have established brands (Angel Chen, Adolfo Sanchez, Daniel Fletcher, and more) and understand the industry from a production perspective. According to Von Der Goltz, the show “is about finding someone we feel has legs to become the designer of the future.”

Featuring the show on a streaming service rather than a traditional network also reflects the ever-growing role of the digital space to consumers and emerging designers. “Everything today is experiential and fashion fits into that perfectly,” Von Der Goltz said in an interview. “And us being digital, the way we communicate is online…streaming fits into who we are as a retailer.”

Amazon’s Making the Cut, executive produced and hosted by Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn, also focuses on the digital aspect as viewers will be able to buy the winning pieces on Amazon immediately following each episode. The show will feature contestants competing for million to invest in their fashion business and guest judges including Naomi Campbell, Nicole Richie, and Carine. Making the Cut will premiere March 27, and a trailer has yet to be released.
