Raf Simons Designed a Capsule Collection with The xx

It’s been 10 years since The xx dropped their eponymous debut album, and to celebrate, the English indie trio comprising Romy Madley Croft, Oliver Sim, and Jamie Smith has teamed up with Raf Simons on a capsule collection.

The unisex lineup features the same dreamy, kaleidoscope imagery from the album, and includes T-shirts and a cap, as well as patches and pins for DIY element. “This links nicely with the first album [because] we were teenagers when we wrote the songs,” Madley Croft said. “I got in trouble at school because I was cutting up my uniform. My dad once got a voicemail from school saying, ‘She looked like she was going to a rock concert,’ which I thought was hilarious. I love that Raf wanted to combine those ideas from him collection into our collaboration.”

Simons’ love for the band and the album, which he’s said is one of his all-time favorites, goes way back. In 2014, when he was at the helm of Dior, the Belgian designer invited them to perform at the Guggenheim. Three years later, Simons worked with photographer and longtime collaborator Alasdair McLellan on The xx’s music video for “I Dare You.”

“I felt really close to him from the beginning,” Croft said. “He had such an in-depth, thoughtful, considerate and meaningful intent. I love that about him: nothing is flippant, everything comes really from a thought-out and cared-about place.”

Of course, like art and subcultures, music—primarily of the electronic vartiety—has been a recurring theme throughout Simons’ career. He’s long integrated elements of his favorite bands into his collections, paying homage to everyone from Joy Division and David Bowie to The Chemical Brothers and German group Kraftwerk.

Raf Simons x The xx collection will be available December 12 online and in select retailers worldwide.
