Among the expected yet ever-exciting eclectic mix of prints presented at the Paco Rabanne Spring/Summer 2020 show, designer Julien Dossena introduced menswear for the first time. Applying his eye for juxtaposing pattern and color, Dossena created a number of men’s looks that layered prints and proportions with the same skill that he designs womenswear. The addition of menswear is one of the brand’s steps to expanding and unifying the Paco Rabanne label, as Dossena and the chief executive of the brand, Bastien Daguzan, are strategizing to bring its fashion and fragrance divisions together.

While there was an undercurrent of the Western trend in the collection–with leather boots, denim, and embellished belts–the fashion house’s signature futurism was also present in the form of silver metallics and its new iterations of its classic chain-mail. For men, this took form as a silver suit layered with a graphic sweater and a floral shirt, and a slim cut black tuxedo-style jumpsuit layered with a red t-shirt and a dotted button down.

Dossena has also brought Paco Rabanne into a growing trend of creative directors adding men’s fashion to their women’s runways. Earlier this season, Brandon Maxwell debuted menswear at New York Fashion Week.
