Once upon a time, hip hop and high fashion dared to meet. Now, Dr.Doll’Art recalls those heady days of gilt-ridden ’80s style, creating haute grills—or “grillz” as the house prefers—for a shocking-chic look. Based in Paris, two friends—Merry, an art director, and Dolly, a dental technician, both 26—create their signature “grillz” with an unerring eye for detail and an irresistible savoir faire. They carefully craft the mouthpieces using precious metals like cobalt chromium and gold, then add special details like lace and jewels to contrast the whiteness of the teeth. The result is a megawatt style with plenty of bite.

We asked who Dr.Doll’Art’s dream clients would be, and here are the answers.

Pussy Riot

They represent free will and resistance against corruption. We would create a classic gold style in chromium cobalt for the lower jaw, and on each canine a star, which symbolizes, in Russian mafia tattoo slang, that they will never submit to authority.

Usain Bolt

He has so much determination and strength. We would make him the gold Slippin’ grillz with the Olympic torch on the upper jaw.

Azealia Banks

Great music, great visuals, great imagination. We would create for her the Mermaid grillz with chromium cobalt on the lower jaw and green and purple Swarovski crystals.

Kanye West

He is an icon. We’d create two pieces: one gold in a very classic style, and another one in laced metal to contrast with the whiteness of the enamel. They could be worn together or on their own.

Frida Kahlo

She is folk art and surrealism at the same time. She’s our every day inspiration. A brushed gold style would have suited her perfectly.
