Politics and fashion have always gone hand-in-hand, especially among the women in and around the White House. “Even the decision not to care about fashion is a political statement,” fashion historian Dr. Jonathan Square once said. Not excluded from the far-ranging influence of political figures are the clothes that they wear, whether campaigning, giving speeches, debating, or even on vacation. With the 2020 election season well underway and TV series like Hulu’s Mrs. America and Netflix’s The Politician bringing government to the forefront of entertainment, the role of fashion in politics is more prominent now than ever.
