From modeling in the historic Battle at Versailles fashion show to being a fixture at Studio 54, legendary model Pat Cleveland has truly seen it all. Discovered on a subway platform at the age of 16, Cleveland has since been hailed as one of the first prominent African-American supermodels. Known for exuding her lively spirit on the catwalks, the dancing queen made a name for herself twirling and whirling down the runways of Halston, Yves Saint Laurent, and Thierry Mugler. Over the years, she’s cultivated a high-caliber inner circle of fellow models and top designers, and credits the fashion community for saving her life after it helped raise money to cover the medical expenses for cancer treatment that she underwent in 2019. Cleveland has since reached remission and is now celebrating her 70th birthday today. In honor of the occasion, CR looks back at highlights from her extensive runway career.
