Anyone wanting to know more about the Louis Vuitton’s Menswear SS22 Collection is in for a real treat. There is an entire universe behind LV’s latest collection and Creative Director Virgil Abloh is at the helm.
The collection is captured by the film “Amen Break” featuring GZA, Goldie, Saul Williams, Issa Perica, Caleb Femi, JIM JOE, Kandis Williams, Thelma Buabeng, Octavia Burgel, Lupe Fiasco, Julian Eugene Tsukasa Williams, Damian Eugene Nagisa Williams, Shabaka Hutchings and Malik Le Nost, and other friends of the Creative Director.
Directed by Mahfuz Sultan, the film focuses on the idea of transmission, “the act of passing of something from person to another, activating waves of change across generations, and impacting the lives of others,” as the house explains. The film also focuses on a father-son relationship, blackness, and cultural values. The story is closely based on the life of rapper Lupe Fiasco who grew up on the South Side of Chicago in the late ’70s and ’80s.
Louis Vuitton also revealed a collaboration with Nike that continues their well-paired partnership. With the Air Force One coming in twenty-one exciting colorways in total and Vuitton and Abloh’s usual codes, the shoes are bound to sell very quickly. But LV is tight-lipped about the release date, telling WWD to “stay tuned for more details.”
Abloh has lofty goals with both the film and his design. Although this is technically a Spring/Summer collection, LV doesn’t go for the obvious. Florals are present but so too are fur jackets and check print motifs which feel more Winter-like. Abloh brings a vibrant color story to this collection as per usual with pops of fuchsia and electric indigo.
If you’re asking how all these elements could marry together, just take a look at the collection below and see for yourself.
