“Oscar was very much the type of man that didn’t like to look back, he was always looking forward” says Fernando Garcia, one half of the house’s Creative Directorial team alongside Laura Kim. The duo, who also lead creative direction at Monse, note that designing in a pandemic has presented a variety of new tools and bumps in the road forcing designers like themselves to think on their toes and create something entirely new.

For their latest season, Garcia and Kim expanded further on creating something innovative while also paying attention to the climate of the time. The two cite a pineapple motif from a Spring/Summer 1992 Oscar collection as the source of inspiration behind their current collection. “We thought the boldness and simplicity of the design struck a chord in us” says Garcia. Inspired by the tropical embellishment, Garcia and Kim decided to expand on this, digging deep into the house’s archives and putting a modern spin on old prints and patterns injecting a sense of refined playfulness throughout the collection.

The collection follows a minimalistic approach while also incorporating statement punches. Eye-catching monochromatic bold tones of bubblegum pink and canary yellow are seen in two-pieces and house dresses for chic pieces that don’t sacrifice any comfort, especially important when it comes to this day and age. Versatility was kept in mind with pieces imagined in a variety of different fabrics from cotton to knits, offering a selection for whatever the weather might be. Elsewhere, Kim and Garcia took their limited resources offered during the pandemic as an incentive to get creative. Delicate brooches are artfully repurposed as sweater buttons while hand-crocheted halter dresses provide the perfect everyday summer look.

Brought to life with a sense of effortless cool by supermodels and CR girls Soo Joo Park and Irina Shayk, both the lookbook and collection align in creating a sense of relaxed and vibrant fun just in time to pull us up and out of lockdown (hopefully) in the coming months.
