From the mind of Sterling Ruby comes a new collection of avant-garde, singular garments and works of art. Following his Spring/Summer 2020 debut at Pitti Uomo in Florence, the artist-turned-designer introduces a fresh drop for his ready-to-wear label, S.R. Studio LA. CA., as a continuation of its mixed-media, one-off Unique collection.

Ruby’s aversion to simplicity and affinity for gritty, graffiti-inspired work is reflected in S.R. Studio’s new releases. The collection, with its singular concept and detailed craftsmanship, blurs the lines between artwork and streetwear. The hand-crafted garments reflect the artist’s response to the current climate, showcasing many of Ruby’s favorite and politically relevant books heat-pressed atop autobiographical references from his personal universe. On one piece, Audre Lorde’s The Master’s Tools Will Never Dismantle the Master’s House sits next to Jack Kerouac’s Piers of the Homeless Night printed on a bleach-dyed Death Angel t-shirt. Other items display photos of wolves, ornate candlesticks, and graffiti, while juxtaposing layered textiles, jagged cutouts, washed tie-dye, and brightly-colored string.

Each piece in Ruby’s Unique launch is entirely one-of-a-kind, equating ownership of one of the collection’s garments to owning a piece of high art. Each garment displays a tag with a signature date and inventory number entered into the same database used for tracking the Ruby’s artwork catalogue.

S.R. Studio LA. CA.’s Unique collection is now available online.
