Kenneth Ize is making his mark as the first Black designer to collaborate with the late, great Karl Lagerfeld’s eponymous label. The two forces of fashion will unite for a limited-edition capsule collection for the Spring 2021 season.

Ize took to Instagram to express his excitement, stating, “I am SO pleased to announce that I will be collaborating with Karl Lagerfeld to co-create the Spring 2021 capsule collection. Thankful to the team who made this happen. You have no idea how much this means to me. It is an HONOUR to be the first black designer collaborating with the brand. Karl has been an inspiration to me and it’s amazing to be in this position.”

The collection will pair Lagerfeld’s iconic Parisian vision with traditional African artistic elements and craftsmanship rooted in Ize’s Nigerian culture. Often utilizing Nigerian weaving techniques, the budding designer has interwoven the West African Yoruba peoples’ aso oke hand-woven method throughout his collections.

Ize first began to turn heads in the global fashion community as a 2019 LVMH Prize finalist with his vibrantly colorful designs and impeccable tailoring. He has since sparked even more excitement with his Fall/Winter 2020 collection, featuring the indelible Naomi Campbell.

The house of Karl Lagerfeld announced that more details on the collaboration will be revealed in coming months. As of now, the capsule is anticipated to be released April 2021.
