Nineties runway legend Christy Turlington has dipped her toes back in the modeling world in the past, most recently gracing Versace’s Spring/Summer 2018 campaign, but hasn’t fully stormed the catwalks in more than two decades (in 1994, she left the fashion industry for good to fully pursue her education at New York University and Columbia University.) On Wednesday night, Turlington made her grand return, closing out New York Fashion Week and Marc Jacobs’ Fall/Winter 2019 show in a black feathered number and barely there, minimalist makeup.

Turlington has spoken about her decision to leave the fashion industry in the past: “I thought about it for a long time, and I guess I really haven’t fully given modeling up, but in my mind I did, because I went back to school and moved on in my life,”she said in an interview. “I remember somebody telling me that they were in a location van and they saw me walk by with my backpack, and they were like, ‘Oh, poor thing.’ And I’m thinking ‘Poor thing? I’m getting my education, you fools.’”

Jacobs has gone with bare-faced beauty before, choosing to forgo cosmetics entirely in 2015, but this is the first time he has showcased no-makeup makeup on the likes of Kaia Gerber, Karlie Kloss, Gigi Hadid, and Turlington. The minimalist look only accentuated the showmanship of the collection, which was marked by tweed capes and feathered hats.

This also marks the first time Turlington walked for Jacobs. Back in 1993, she strutted down the runway for the designer’s infamous grunge collection for Perry Ellis (which subsequently got him fired.) Turlington was also tapped to appear in Jacobs’ star-studded campaign for Fall/Winter 2015 but hasn’t walked his eponymous line until Wednesday night. Welcome back, Christy.
