Though Charles Rennie Mackintosh passed away almost a century ago, his design influences can still be seen to this day. Born the fourth of eleven children in Glasgow in 1868, Mackintosh lived much of his life in the Scottish capital, eventually becoming responsible for many of its architectural landmarks. His practice, Honeyman & Keppie, was known as The Four, and its contributions to architecture, furniture, and textile design later influenced Art Nouveau, Secessionism, and other art movements. Characterized by his unique combination of form and material, Mackintosh’s work is now being re-seen in a new special collection by Loewe.
Released for the holiday season as a full accessories and ready-to-wear line for men and women, Loewe’s Charles Rennie Mackintosh Collection channels the spirit and techniques of the architect onto pieces for the closet. Encompassing, dresses knits, shirts, jackets, and trousers, the series showcases the house’s advanced leather craft techniques, including marquetry and layered stitching. Like past Loewe capsules, William Morris and Paula’s Ibizia, the pieces look back into the past for an intellectual response to fashion today.
Loewe’s Mackintosh collection is available online now.
