Hedi Slimane’s First Celine Handbag Hints at More Parisian Chicness to Come

A few days after an oversized, accent-free Celine bag mysteriously appeared on the arm of CR star Lady Gaga, we now finally have a name.
It’s Le 16, and it’s Hedi Slimane’s first glimpse of his new vision as artistic director of the French fashion house. The handbag was named after the Hôtel Colbert de Torcy (a mid-17th century neoclassical mansion built by financial advisor to the King Louis XIII Jacques Tubeuf), which is now home to Celine’s headquarters at 16 Rue Vivienne in the 2nd arrondissement of Paris.
Designed by Slimane on his first day of arrival at the maison, Le 16 recalls the best moments about Celine’s long history: simplicity, luxury, and Parisian chicness. Its cropped flap and rounded belt effects mirror past favorites while the exotic skin hint at what’s to come when the designer makes his ready-to-wear (and men’s) debut this October.
For now, we’ll just have the images, which were photographed by the fashion auteur himself, of course.
