Holidays, weekends, the beach—they’re all things Derek Lam was imagining when he dreamed up his new swimwear collection for Derek Lam 10 Crosby, which was revealed today. The 20-piece line draws the same inspiration as the brand’s Spring/Summer 2018 collection, which was influenced by Italian architecture and ‘60s silhouettes. “I have always loved the attitude of swimwear,” Lam tells CR. “It’s a wardrobe piece which is all about a leisurely lifestyle.”
“Nostalgia, especially the 1960s, is always a fun way to interpret designs. Especially swimwear, which the spirit of the 60’s can be showcased with a wink—having fun with it,” he says of the pieces. “All the small elements, the different details, make the swim collection special; there is an emotional response to something which is unique and refreshing in design.”
There are several details in the collection that one wouldn’t expect to see in swimwear. Flourishes such as ruffled shoulders and athletic looking laces means that fans can take a much more fashion-forward approach to lounging around this summer. With that in mind, one has to know—how would Lam define looking good while relaxing in swimwear? “Poolside chic is utter confidence in a bare and sexy way of dressing,” he offers. Well, at least he’s making it easy for us.
