While fast fashion trends tend to go straight from the catwalks to the shelves of big-name stores, more and more designers are cutting out the middlemen entirely and are instead offering chic pieces directly to shoppers. Enter: Wardrobe.Nyc, a clothing label founded by Aussie designer Josh Goot and stylist Christine Centenera. The brand launches online today, December 7, 2017, and features both men’s and women’s collections.
Goot, who created his eponymous label in 2005, has long been known for eschewing traditional conventions of masculine and feminine in his designs. His SS17 collection had female models donning Tevas down the runway and wearing stylized (and oversized) streetwear pieces. Goot is bringing a similar sensibility to his capsule collection, unveiling wardrobe staples in a simple black and white color scheme.
“Inspired to create the ultimate tailored wardrobes for ourselves and those who share our values and aesthetic, Wardrobe is a timeless and honest expression of what luxury dressing can be,” Goot said in a statement.
The limited-edition collection has been described as “the opposite of fast fashion” by the creators. Shoppers can now cut down on their designer splurging without having to sacrifice design or fabric quality in their clothing.
“It’s a considered, cohesively styled solution that focuses on luxury without excess,” Centenera said. “These pieces form the foundation of my wardrobe, and inform how I dress every day.”
The men’s collection includes a blazer, shirt, T-shirt, trouser, hoodie, coat, and pants while the women’s collection features a skirt, blouse, leggings, blazer, shirt, T-shirt, knit, and coat. The first release launches as a four-piece (,500) or eight-piece (,000) collection pack.
