Helmut Lang’s newest editor-in-residence Isabella Burley, also the editor in chief at the London-based publication Dazed & Confused, was recently appointed as the house’s creative overseer, and she’s already begun spearheading various projects. Her latest collaboration with the brand’s is the recently announced ‘Helmut Lang Seen By: The Artist Series project.’

With the aim of uncovering a new generation of young creatives, the year-long program features a selection of 12 visual artists—all of whom represent the spirit of Helmut Lang’s past and present aesthetic, which has been under a constant state of evolution since Helmut himself parted ways with him eponymous label back in 2005. This project attempts to bridge that gap, reminding us that its founder considered himself a fine artist above all else.

Starting October 16, 2017, each artist will be assigned to a specific month in which they’ll collaborate with the brand on a collection of limited-edition merchandise (posters, T-shirts, and other accessories). The first installment of the series will feature work by photographer Walter Preiffer, and his collection of black-and-white images from the 1980s. 15% of the proceeds from sales will go to a charity of the artist’s choice—Preiffer’s sum will be donated to The Nature Conservancy. After Preiffer, artists Leigh Ledare, Boris Mikhailov, and Carolee Schneemann, to name a few, will take their respective turns.

As Helmut Lang continues to rebrand itself under new creative direction, this project is the first in awhile that’s been at all reminiscent of the house during Lang’s involvement. While at the helm, much of Lang’s time was spent collaborating with fellow artists in the industry such as Jenny Holzer and Louise Bourgeois.

On October 16th, the ‘Helmut Lang Seen By: The Artist Series’ will be available at Helmut Lang stores worldwide and at helmutlang.com.
