Justin Bieber has canceled the remainder of his worldwide Purpose tour, but the pop sensation has found another purpose yet—this time, in the fashion world. He’s teamed up with his longtime stylist Karla Welch on a collection of reworked Hanes white T-shirts.
The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Welch and Bieber’s new venture came about after the singer had been asking her for tees that appeared oversize, but still slim-fitting. “We wanted something oversize, but not super crazy…but where we ran into trouble was finding the right fabric. We both loved Hanes white cotton shirts,” she told the source. With her scissors in tow, the stylist took to the superstore K-Mart and purchased dozens of XXXL Hanes white tees to cut and repurpose.
According to the same source, Welch created 600 shirts for Bieber when she realized that there was some serious bank to this basic. She reached out directly to Hanes and, within a week, the xKarla T-shirt collection was born. Like the original Hanes tees, each of Karla’s 7 styles are tagged at the affordable price of . Styles range from oversized to crop tops, that Welch said are made to feel like vintage, as if it could be worn by a modern day Grace Kelly or Caroyln Bessette.
Along with the T-shirts came a campaign in which, you guessed it, Bieber stars proudly as the face—with a little help from supermodel friends, Kaia Gerber and Joan Smalls. The tees are available today at xkarla.com and at maxfieldla.com.
