After listening to Chromatica all of quarantine, it’s finally time to see the new album played out live onstage. Lady Gaga has announced that she will be returning to the VMAs this year, her first live performance at the event since her “Applause” performance in 2013.
In classic avant-garde Gaga style, the singer took to social media to announce the news. Donning a fuzzy pink bathrobe and futuristic feather headpiece, Gaga sips on the glass of red wine to the tune of dramatic orchestral music. “I’ve been at home dreaming of Chromatica, and it’s finally time to take off for the first live performance,” she writes alongside the video.
Following her Chromatica debut in June, the “Rain on Me” singer and her co-creator Ariana Grande have each locked in nine VMA nominations each, putting them in the lead for 2020 nominations. Gaga herself is up for Video of the Year, Best Collaboration, Artist of the Year, and Song of the Year, among many others.
Gaga will join the likes of The Weekend, BTS, J Balvin, Roddy Rich, and Doja Cat, who have previously announced their 2020 VMA performance plans, with each artist set to live-stream from a separate, socially-distanced New York City location. Catch Gaga’s performance along with the rest on August 30th, 8 PM EST on MTV.
