Elle Woods is getting a makeover! Comedy writers Mindy Kaling and Dan Goor have signed on to write Legally Blonde 3, with Reese Witherspoon reprising her role as pink-loving law student Elle Woods.

Witherspoon and Kaling have already worked together, co-starring in Ava DuVernay’s 2018 A Wrinkle In Time. Witherspoon seems ecstatic to be working with her friend again. “Great news alert!!” the actress posted to social media, “some things are just meant to be!”

The two have had successful television runs in the past year, with Witherspoon starring in hit shows Big Little Lies and Little Fires Everywhere and Kaling co-creating and writing the freshly released Netflix series Never Have I Ever. Previously, many of Kaling’s projects have explored women’s issues and experiences. Her show The Mindy Project, which she created, wrote, and starred in, focused on female gynecologist and mother Mindy Lahiri. Many of Kaling’s books have also addressed pressures and desires surrounding love, family, and attraction.

Kaling has also worked with Goor before, as the pair recently completed and sold a wedding comedy slated to star Priyanka Chopra to Universal Pictures. Goor is primarily known for his work on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Parks and Recreation, and The Daily Show.

The Legally Blonde franchise is beloved by many. In addition to the first sequel, the film spawned a Broadway show, a children’s film (Legally Blondes), and countless Elle Woods Halloween costumes. Elle and her sorority sisters prove that loving fashion can be a source of empowerment, and (spoiler alert) Elle’s final pink dress is one of the most famed style moments in film.

Kaling and Goor have yet to reveal exactly what their plans are for the third Legally Blonde film, nor does it have a release date, but the comedic duo are expected to bring a new take on the story.
