The New York fashion world is saying goodbye to the legendary writer and editor Glenn O’Brien in a very special way, with a memorial during fashion week, and WWD reports that there will be public seating available (though it will be limited).
O’Brien worked for Interview under Andy Warhol, and later contributed to publications like Artforum, Rolling Stone, and GQ (where he held a long-running column as the “Style Guy”). He passed away last April at the age of 70.
O’Brien’s career stretched beyond the world of magazines. In addition to penning several books (including co-writing Madonna’s Sex), he consulted in advertising for notable clients such as Calvin Klein and Revlon. A true renaissance man, his career also included turns as a stand-up comedian, being in a band, and hosting his own televised talk show.
Suffice to say, Glenn O’Brien was a jack (and master) of all trades, who paved the way for many of the editors-as-celebrities we have today.
Glenn O’Brien’s memorial will take place on September 10, from 6 to 7:30 at the SVA Theater in New York.
