LVMH Expands its Artisanal Training Program to Italy

Back in 2014, LVMH founded a school to train the next generation of master craftsman and artisans called the Métiers d’Excellence. The learning initiative allowed young apprentices to further their skills in jewelry-making, atelier sewing, watchmaking, the art of wine production, and cooking. Each program was established to be run in partnership with French or Swiss schools like the École de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne, for example, that have a long legacy of producing the nation’s finest talent in their given field. For the first time today, LVMH has announced that the educational effort will now expand to include a school in Italy.

The luxury powerhouse will be pairing up with Tuscan fashion school Polimoda to help hone the talents of leather-goods students. The new program will include only 12 artisans-in-training, with classes being held in both Polimoda Design Lab in Scandicci and Palazzo Pucci in Italy. The program will also include on-site training at various brands under the LVMH umbrella.

Polimoda has long been ranked within the top ten fashion schools in the world for its unique approach to learning; the institute offers integrative conceptual structure and a thorough technical approach in all of its courses. Students in the LVMH Program will able to work with the newest leather materials in the school’s innovation labs.

LVMH’s chairman, Bernard Arnault is investing heavily in the company’s education programs. He recently announced plans to open a massive new facility in France: La Maison LVMH in Bois de Boulogne will house an auditorium, exhibition space, lecture halls, and a restaurant with a view of the Parisian skyline. In keeping with the nearby Fondation Louis Vuitton, the upcoming building will be designed by architect Frank Gehry.
