Known formally as the Goddess of Pop, Cher was born Cherilyn Sarkisian on May 20, 1946. From a young age, Cher desired to become a star and she’d often entertain children at lunch singing songs in midriff-baring tops. During the mid ’60s, Cher met Sonny Bono at a coffee shop in Los Angeles where the two began building their career and style off of each other in iconic ’60s looks. When the two began The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour, Cher looked to designer Bob Mackie who became her lifelong friend and personal designer, attributing a sequin coated signature to the superstar. Today, Cher’s iconic costumes are considered to be an essential piece of her entertainment, proving the best artists have a look to match. Celebrating her 73rd birthday, CR charts this diva’s over-the-top fashion moments throughout history (and there are quite a few of them).
