Over the weekend, thousands of people gathered in the streets to celebrate New York’s annual Pride march. Originally founded as a civil rights demonstration and a day of remembrance for all those lost to illness and violence in the LGBTQ community, this year’s festivities took a decidedly political tone despite the party atmosphere. Marchers heading down Fifth Avenue waved photos of President Donald Trump and held banners bearing the words ’resist’ and ‘gays against guns’ against a rainbow flag backdrop.
