It’s no secret that Céline Dion loves fashion. In addition to publicly sporting buzzy brands like Vetements and Off-White, the Canadian music icon has been unabashedly enthusiastic—and, at times, emotional—during runway shows. So it’s no surprise that 51-year-old Dion completely shut it down at tonight’s Met Gala.
The star, who’s currently performing her second residency in Las Vegas, fully embraced the theme of camp, stepping out onto the pink carpet in custom Oscar de la Renta. According to the brand, the shimmering ensemble took 3,000 hours to make and weighs more than 22 pounds (likely thanks to the sleeves, which include 3,000 strands of fringe made of glass bugle beads). Dion topped off her jaw-dropping look with a sun goddess-like headpiece designed by English milliner Noel Stewart. Talk about dedication.
The look was reportedly inspired by a costume in the 1941 film classic Ziegfeld Girl, featuring Judy Garland, Lana Turner, and Hedy Lamarr. (Lady Gaga, who’s co-hosting the evening, also channeled Garland recently at the Golden Globes.) While Dion isn’t the only A-lister to serve up a look this evening, she definitely brought the drama—even if she didn’t quite understand the theme.
“I was ready to camp and sleep all night,” Dion told E! “They said, ‘Girl, you don’t know what camp is. Oscar de la Renta’s going to show you.’” Indeed they did.
