Mexican artist Frida Kahlo‘s penchant for color theory extended beyond just her paintings. For the upcoming exhibition, Frida Kahlo: Appearances Can Be Deceiving, the largest U.S. exhibit devoted to Kahlo in a decade, viewers will be able to see Kahlo’s personal makeup collection, which mainly consisted of her most treasured brand Revlon. The showcase will also display her clothing, jewelry, and other keepsakes, as well as photographs and works from the Brooklyn Museum’s Mesoamerican collection.
From February 8 to May 12, 2019, Kahlo’s iconic eyebrow pencil, nail polish, and crimson red lipstick will be on view. Known for subverting traditional standards of beauty, the artist commonly sported a strong brow and strong red lip. “Of my face, I like the eyebrows and the eyes,” she once said of her unconventional beauty. “Aside from that, I like nothing. I have a mustache and the face of the opposite sex.”
Among the cosmetics on display will be Revlon Lipstick in Everything’s Rosy, Revlon Brow Pencil in Ebony, Revlon Nail Polish in Frosted Pink Lightning, Frosted Snow Pink and Top Coat, Revlon Blush in Crimson, and Revlon Emery Boards. Although Revlon has certainly evolved since Kahlo’s time, click through to see modern iterations of her favorite products to re-create her look.
