Spring has fashion thinking a lot about reinvention via fragrance. From Louis Vuitton to Marc Jacobs, the chicest brands are dropping olfactory confections right and left, creating an industry-wide lineup with the scent of a new outlook on life. Now, to add to the excitement, Hermès has announced not one but five additions to its Hermessence collection. Including two essences de parfum and three eaux de toilette, the French favorite’s new creations look to embody meanderings of the imagination and soul.

The latest eaux de toilette aim to please a diverse crowd, with Hermessences including the spicy rose of Myrrhe Églantine, Agar Ébene’s cashmere woods, and all-knowing Cédre Sambac. On the perfume side, the brand enlisted Christine Nagel to create two gestural, musky experiences which captivate whether alone or under another Hermès fragrance. Cardamusc mixes cardamom with animalistic musks to create a radiant allure, and Musc Pallida enhances iris to become the olfactory equivalent of liquid gold.

Hermès considered the symbolic meaning of every detail, down to the number of new fragrances. The brand explained that five is the number of harmony and balance, and through the collection they aim to discover ancient, oriental grace. The musk and wood mix with florals and other contemporary notes, and the products cater to additional senses via supple leather cases and elegant design.

Until now, this year’s spring fragrances smelled just like sugary gardens and millennial pink, but Hermès is proposing that ancient influences can be just as refreshing. The combination of past and present scented trends allows for wearers to communicate nostalgia while still trying something new.
