As a staff biologist or environmental scientist, you will be responsible for working on public and private-sector projects across the Puget Sound region and throughout the greater Pacific Northwest. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work on public and private-sector projects across the Puget Sound region and throughout the greater Pacific Northwest
  • Conduct project work addressing aquatic environments such as streams, wetlands, and estuaries, including field identification and assessment; documentation; and restoration and mitigation planning.
  • Gather and analyze publicly available maps and databases at the project site and vicinity.
  • Delineate wetland and stream ordinary high-water mark (OHWM) boundaries and conduct habitat surveys for fish habitat & passage improvements, stormwater upgrades, flood control projects, and culvert/bridge replacements.
  • Assist with preparation of reports documenting existing conditions, impact assessments, and      mitigation plans.
  • Complete permit applications and supporting documentation (e.g., SEPA/NEPA, Shoreline, JARPA, HPA). 
  • Work with design teams, other environmental scientists, and regulatory personnel to identify and      incorporate sensitive habitat mapping, design minimization measures, and environmental commitments into design plans and permit applications.
  • Work with contractors during construction to ensure project implementation fulfills design and      permit requirements.

Qualifications

  • BS or BA in Biology, Environmental Science, Ecology, Watershed Science or equivalent. 
  • Ability to perform wide range of physical activities and field work.
  • Knowledge and experience with Pacific Northwest native plants and wildlife preferred.
  • Proficiency with GIS software and GPS technology preferred.
  • Ability to adapt to changing project requirements and successfully work within a team.
  • Proven problem solving, and professional-level verbal and written communication skills are a must.
  • Valid driveru2019s license is required.
  • Must be willing to travel domestically as needed.

Our best estimate of the salary range for this position, located in Tacoma WA, is $56,559 – $72,821. Compensation offered will be based on a variety of individual factors, including education and experience, as well as internal equity. GeoEngineersu2019 salary ranges are reviewed and updated each year and employees are eligible for pay increases based on individual performance.  As part of our competitive total rewards package, employees in this role may also be eligible for our annual year-end bonus offering, subject to program eligibility requirements.
