Ever since joining the storied house of Givenchy in 2020, Creative Director Matthew Williams, has made it his mission to bring the brand into the novel realm of digital fashion. Following the success of their collaboration for the Spring/Summer 2022 pre-collection, which launches today, Givenchy and the Mexico-based graphic artist Chito are continuing their partnership with a series of 15 exclusive NFTs, or non-fungible tokens. Simply put, NFTs are unique digital artworks that can be used by collectors as online avatars or PFPs (profile pictures). Seeing as NFTs as PFPs are quickly becoming a popular trend among those in the fashion community, with this latest auction, they can now showcase ownership of Chito and Williams’ creations for Givenchy and pay homage to the rapid growth of digital fashion.

Their runway collection features an array of garments, including sweatshirts, pants, and sneakers, bearing various airbrushed characters and symbols that provide a new take on the typical fashion house and artist partnership. This next phase of their collaboration pushes the envelope further. The 15 NFTs represent rare, unique graphic designs, each created by Chito and Williams themselves. As a collective, they will feature the same iconic prints used in the Spring 2022 pre-collection, such as the pop-inspired Truehearted.

“I’ve been wanting to explore this new and exciting space of NFTs,” said Williams of the collection. “The fact that Chito is already active in the ecosystem made it feel even more natural for us to collaborate on this limited series and bring our collective vision for Givenchy even further.” The Chito x Givenchy NFTs will go on sale on Open Sea on November 23. After seven days the highest offer will be accepted and, following this, the bidders will receive their NFTs. While both the artist and fashion House plan on creating more NFT works in the future, this set of 15 will be the originals and very first-of-their kind. Additionally, the auction will help support Givenchy’s long-term preferred foundation, The Ocean Cleanup, a Dutch nonprofit committed to developing technology to extract plastic pollution from the oceans. Thus, with this collaboration, Williams and Givenchy demonstrate their dedication to bringing fashion into the future in both the digital and environmental realms.

The Chito x Givenchy NFT auction will open on November 23 on Open Sea.
