Disco meets dainty. Ermanno Scervino‘s Spring/Summer 2022 collection is a colorful parade of glitter dreams, each look more vibrant than the last. Couture technique meshes with early 2000s aesthetics as the collection progresses, ultimately rendering a modern love letter to classic femininity.

Known for their delicate craftsmanship, the Italian house concocted a wonderland of wearability to glide through the halls of Milan’s Palazzo Francesco Turati. Meticulously constructed lace is sheer over a two-pieced set, slim feathers burst from mini dresses, and sturdy anoraks are unexpectedly draped over sparkled shifts. Definition of day to night.

Color was the collection’s centerpiece, transitioning hue by hue until the final look. Monochrome is clearly here to stay, only rarely broken up via color-blocking of similar shades. Almost converting from black and white to color as starkly as the Wizard of Oz, Ermanno Scervino introduced green exactly halfway along the lineup, followed by yellows, pinks, and purples. A range of tans and browns furnished a suede-adorned trip back to the ’70s, tying in well with the disco-esque pieces of the collection’s second half. Sequined halter tops, obviously.

The maison’s recent gravitation to “sport couture” is apparent through the presence of knit co-ords under blazers, rain-ready spring jackets coupled with elegant dresses, and scrunched cargo pants—in suede. Two seemingly variant entities are evidently more alike than most believe, as a combination is vital for couture’s survival amidst sportswear’s unbridled rise. Ermanno Scervino took notice.
