Fendi Taps Sara Coleman for the FF Vertigo Capsule Collection

Fendi is reaching new heights with this latest summer 2021 capsule collection. “Happy, colorful, irresistible,” are three words to describe this artistic re-imagining of this unisex line. Fendi’s capsule collection is all-in-all a celebration of summer. Camping trips, rock climbing, a candy colored palate, and patterns that will make you want to disco are all bottled into one for this mesh of joy.

New York-based visual artist Sarah Coleman, known for her “disruptive manipulation of designers’ materials,” was specifically tapped to give her expertise to the collaboration. With the same outlook on repurposing and handcraft, Coleman and Fendi Accessories and Menswear Artistic Director Silvia Venturini Fendi worked together to give the fashion house a reinterpretation of the classic FF logo. What resulted was a ’70s-inspired psychedelic creation known as the FF Vertigo. This new magnetic motif offered a twisted, turned version of the classic FF pattern along with a hefty dose of nostalgia.

Wavy manipulations of the logo in vibrant yellow and blue tones popped up throughout the capsule like in the Peekaboo X-Tote and the Baguette 1997 which feature the warped FF Fisheye.

Like two kids on the playground, the limits of creativity for this capsule had no limits. The Peekaboo ISeeU style, for instance, crafted from an FF logo padded nappa leather is treated to be (drumroll, please) glow in the dark. Other pieces from the accessories range have equally as vibrant techniques. The yellow FF Vertigo on the Peekaboo bag is printed through an ink jet technology on the mineral tanned leather. The same Vertigo pattern, in yellow or blue variations, is also printed on cool and resistant coated canvas and the FENDI Mini Sunshine Shopper is made up of color-popping straw.

Freedom and adventure were the main inspirations for this outdoor lifestyle-esque summer capsule. For the women’s Ready-to-wear line; multi-pocket skirts, transformable jackets, and cargo pants are mixed with hyper feminine bodysuits and draped tops. Windbreakers, swimsuits, and fluid pants also are thrown into the mix, setting up any wearer to be the coolest looking hiker.

For the men, this same “effortless elegance and contemporary functionality” easily finds its way into bowling shirts, bermuda pants, and cool (yes cool) fisherman’s vests.

Still referencing the vintage spirit of the capsule, Fendi also infuses a free-spirited vibe into a range of crochet bags. While you can’t get more ’70s than that, they also managed to simultaneously channel a ’90s Kitschy aesthetic with elements like their version of the 1997 Baguette, shimmering sequins, and floral embroideries.

While this 2021 capsule is amazing on its own, throw in their collection of limited-edition items and it manages to impress even themselves. With the psychedelic motif at the center of this line as well, outdoor accessories are re-vamped to be the coolest and grooviest of side kicks. An FF Vertigo polaroid camera combines the iconic vintage Polaroid 636 with Fendi DNA. A fun and versatile bento box was made in collaboration with Alessi — along with a camping equipment set, and a tent and men’s technical backpack was produced by specialist Ferrino.

I guess we know what we’re wearing on our next vacation trip.
