The Loewe Foundation Craft Prize will be opening a digital exhibition May 25th, 2021.

The exhibition will feature thirty artists from across the globe who represent distinct points of view in the world of contemporary art. From textile, to ceramics, tile, metal, and paper, the artists engage with an array of mediums.

“This exciting array of objects prove a master of material, reimagine traditional techniques and display a brave willingness to experiment. Many of the artists chosen this year use found and upcycled materials in their work, and concern for the natural world expressed through organic forms is an omnipresent theme,” Loewe explains.

The winner of the Loewe foundation craft prize will be announced May 25th and was decided by a panel of international figures from the world of architecture, design, fashion, and, art. The virtual exhibit will allow viewers to “walk around” the Great Hall of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, bringing pieces up close using 3D technology smartphone technology.

The winner of the prize will receive €50,000. The award was conceived by creative director Jonathan Anderson in 2016 and aims to acknowledge the importance that art and craft have in our culture. Anderson says, “Craft is the essence of Loewe. As a house, we are about craft in the purest sense of the word. That is where our modernity lies, it will always be relevant.”

The Loewe Foundation Craft Exhibition will open online May 25, 2021 at Loewecraftprize.com
