Building on prior themes of nature and identity, Burberry’s Fall/Winter 2021 presentation — “Femininity” — is, per the house, a “love letter to women and a celebration of their incomparable strength.”

Fresh off of Creative Director Riccardo Tisci’s first-ever menswear collection for the brand, the designer continues a decade-long exploration of the female form. Set against a thumping soundtrack and following an intricate incarnation of British artist Shygirl, the presentation explores femininity through a muted palette and subtle inversions. Intricately cut outerwear and muted paillettes introduce a new lexicon to Tisci’s tenure at Burberry — one that maintains the house’s DNA while opting for new fabrications and silhouettes.

Continuing with the designer’s aesthetic focus on neutrality, the show set — at the brand’s flagship London store — introduces a sense of depth that follows the passage of models and flow of the video. Stands out in the collection are most certainly Tisci’s refined tailoring and delicious accessories. Cut out blazers and cigarette leg pants add a technical flair to formalwear, and compliment the accessories featured in a wide range of hues and textiles.

The brand expresses a “love letter to women” through silhouettes seen predominately in nature and outerwear. Tisci’s naturalist approach is a welcomed sight in a pandemic era of outdoor exploration and plays with themes the designer established for Spring/Summer 2021. As always, Tisci builds a delicately stylish consumer, a woman who is not shy of exploring a wardrobe full of layered femininity fit for a post-pandemic world.
