Kenzo Takada was known as one of the most iconic Japanese designers in the fashion scene. He celebrated life in all of its many colors, pioneered Japanese free-flowing silhouette and authentic kimono design to European runways in the 1970s. Today, Kenzo’s Creative Director Felipe Oliveira Baptista pays tribute to the brand’s iconic founder, celebrating the brand’s soul through his own prism.

Oliveira Baptista joined the brand as creative director in 2019. Since then, he made sure to master the very essence of the brand’s original philosophy – the one that Takada preached and expressed in his designs. This season, Oliveira Baptista has managed to do so without overquoting the past yet again. The Fall/Winter 2021 collection titled “Kenzo Always” becomes Oliveira Baptista’s dedication to Takada, who passed away from coronavirus complications last October. Presenting the collection in the eclectic fashion film, Oliveira Baptista expressed his ideas in the creative mix of modern sport chic and avant-garde colors. The models lose themselves in the improvised dance on the round catwalk under the sounds of the original soundtrack “planningtoKENZO” that was exclusively created by English artist Planningtorock. Comfort that has always been an essential component of Takada’s designs marries the art of self-expression in folkloric motifs and monochromatic futurism.
