On Joe Biden’s Inauguration day in Washington D.C., Bernie Sanders became an internet sensation via meme. The socially distanced Vermont Politician wore his mask, hand-knitted mittens, a black suit jacket, black trousers, and a coat from Vermont- based label Burton casually protecting himself from both COVID-19 and the freezing winter morning. Outshining a range of fashion heavyweights from Michelle Obama in Sergio Hudson to Jennifer Lopez in Chanel, Sanders’ minimalistic fashion choice strangely drew more attention than any of the other looks.

The US senator’s simplistic and unborthered fashion choices feels relatable, like our own fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and friends during this time.

Sanders commented on his fashion choice on CBS News, “You know, in Vermont … we know something about the cold. We’re not so concerned about good fashion, we want to keep warm. And that’s what I did today.”
