In a world where traditionally ugly shoe styles parade down the runways, designers have given Crocs, Uggs, Mary Janes, and Birkenstocks a luxury update. The latest to join the chaotic fun is Italian label Bottega Veneta with the release of a unisex and biodegradable take on the classic rain boot as part of its Fall 2020 collection, out today.

First debuting on the Fall/Winter 2020 runway in February, the Puddle boot re-interprets the brand’s signature bulky toe in a sleek mold. The shoe is made from biodegradable polymer, which means it’s derived from natural molecules—like those found in sugarcane and bananas—rather than with synthetic chemicals. Unlike many textiles that can sit in landfills for decades releasing harmful gases into the atmosphere, the Puddle can break down into natural products within a year of disposal in the right conditions.

The ultra-lightweight and waterproof Puddle is available in both men’s and women’s sizing with the same fit for both genders. The men’s boot comes in black, kiwi, and rubber band colorways, while the women’s version adds an offering of bright, “lollipop” pink.

Bottega Veneta’s Puddle boot is now available online.
