The Chanel Cruise 2021 collection has arrived. Titled “Balade en Méditerranée,” which translates to “A trip around the Mediterranean,” the fashion exudes a relaxed summer flair worthy of the Italian and French Riviera. While the collection was originally slated to be shown in Capri, Italy, Creative Director Virginie Viard had to pivot amidst safety concerns of the coronavirus. Instead, it is presented digitally through a picturesque video look book shot by Julien Pujol and sunset-backed images captured by Karim Sadli.

Inspired by the glamorous resort fashion of 1960s Hollywood icons, the collection was imagined with a free and effortless allure. Viard envisaged a collection versatile and portable enough to fit within a singular travel bag, with many of the garments being multipurpose and transformative in design. A maxi skirt may double as a dress, while a chiffon jacket may be worn as a coverup.

With pops of sun-kissed terra cotta and hot summer pinks to rival that of the Mediterranean landscape’s bougainvillea, the vibrance of summer is brought to life in the pieces, accented by light leathers, lamé, and Chanel’s iconic tweed. While this laid-back, refined Cruise collection awaits the days when jet-setting is back on track, it is just as perfect for whiling away the summer days at home.
