Jesse Jo Stark Brings the Music Home

Jesse Jo Stark has been surrounded by music her whole life—literally. The daughter of Richard and Laurie Stark, she’s the third and youngest in command of Chrome Hearts, the rock ‘n’ roll fashion and jewelry label thats outfitted everyone from Virgil Abloh to The Rolling Stones since its founding in 1988. Cher is famously her godmother, and when Stark began her professional music career, Steve Jones from the Sex Pistols produced her first EP, Down Your Drain.

Now, the family business’ tie to their love of music is getting even tighter with Chrome Hearts’ Sugar Jones Boot, which releases today. Titled after a nickname given to her while traveling with Cher as a child, the white calfskin leather style come from Jesse Jo’s own current tour wardrobe. “I developed these boots years ago with a shoemaker artist friend because I always wanted shoes with the perfect height to feel sexy but also that I’m able to walk in and dance in,” she tells CR. “It took me a long time to find the right point and heel—they’re handmade, so that took even longer—but by the time they were complete and I put them on, I felt like my entire stage presence had changed. I flipped out. Now, I’m only wearing them or I’m barefoot.”

Near similar to the very same shoes she performs in, the new, 4-inch boots arrive in three punk-y glam versions—each decorated by a different Chrome Hearts emblem—in only ten coveted pairs. Retailing for ,500 each, every handmade pair boasts a pink star in its interior signed by the singer herself.

To celebrate the launch, Chrome Hearts welcomed friends and family to its playhouse-like West Hollywood boutique last night in LA for a dinner by Night + Market’s Kris Yenbamroong. In addition to the Thai bites, guests from the fashion and music worlds were treated to the first sight of the boots in addition to a rare video of Jesse Jo singing “Breakfast with Lou” at Chrome Hearts’ live music series at its LA factory earlier this year (debuting online for the first time below) in which the singer performs in a cow-printed style of the Sugar Jones. All in all, the evening was a deeply personal affair. “I have such strong memories of being on tour with my godmother when I was little, and now I’m coming off being on my own tour myself. It feels really full circle,” says Jesse Jo. “To be honest, a small part of me wants to protect these boots and keep them for myself, but a bigger part is so excited to share them with the world.”

Of course, the Sugar Jones Boots aren’t the first Chrome Hearts piece Jeese Jo has designed. When she was 18, the Bella Hadid-bff created a stud and spike jewelry accessory for her parent’s brand that has since become a fan favorite, and through the years the musician has continued to design under the label and release small capsule collections. But its projects like this, she says, that remain close to her heart. As for keeping the boots pristine, Jesse Jo has but one tidbit of advice: don’t. “If you wan’t to clean them you can, but I wouldn’t,” she says. “I think you should buy them clean and then just fuck them up.”

Chrome Hearts Sugar Jones Boots are now available exclusively at 600 N Robertson Blvd, West Hollywood, CA.
