The Council for Fashion Designers of America announced this week that American fashion designer and iconic costumier Bob Mackie will be honored at this year’s CFDA awards with the highly regarded Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement award.
The legendary designer began his career as a sketch artist for costume designers leading him to dress the wardrobes of Mitzi Gaynor, the Carol Burnett Show, and (of course) Cher’s tours. As an internationally renowned designer, Mackie has dressed some leading ladies of Hollywood both on, and off the stage- like Liza Minelli, Whitney Houston, and Bette Midler. Most recently, Mackie designed over 600 costumes for the Broadway production The Cher Show which debuted in December of 2018.
“Bob Mackie is one of the most prolific designers of all time,” said Steven Kolb, President and CEO of the CFDA. “He is a true artist and the ultimate showman.”
Spanning over five decades from the stage, to the television screen, to the silver screen, Mackie has amassed an impressive nine Emmy awards and three Academy Award nominations, completed with a CFDA award permeating his work across industries.
The CFDA Fashion Awards will be held June 3rd and hosted at the Brooklyn Museum with a long list of notable honorees awarded including Carine and Jennifer Lopez.
