Prada Debuts Resort 2020 Collection

Occupying the entire seventh floor of Hell’s Kitchen’s Piano Factory in a panoramic view lit by a neon pink glow, Prada presented its 2020 Resort collection amongst guests like Uma Thurman, Sofia Coppola, and Anderson .Paak, creating a highly conceptual new dialog around sartorial elegance.

The collection alternatively uses “elegance as sedition” pulling away from the pure and true and reimagining a re-calibrated language around hyper-classism fashion. Prada explores suggestive dichotomies creating something completely different from traditional views of glamour. The collection mixes traditionally elegant styles like brass-button blazers, cable knit sweaters, and eased skirts in a way that feels more playful and modern, culminating in something of an uptown meets downtown style.

Right down to the patterns, Prada mixes rustic prairie-style micro-pattern florals
against modest pinstripes. Brightly colored floral embroidery and chunky grandpa-style sweater vests gives the collection a homemade look that feels as intimate as it does chic.

In terms of accessories, simple scarfs were executed like glamorous boas of paillettes for a unique approach to a day-to-day scarf look. By far the most show-stopping was Prada’s relaunch of the archival style the Bowling Bag. Originally presented as a part of the Spring/Summer 2000 collection, the Bowling Bag was the new millennium’s bag drawing upon modernist design aesthetics with contrasting colors and streamlined contours. Marking the 20th anniversary of it’s debut, the classic model is represented as apart of the Resort 2020 show.

A limited issue of Prada Bowling Bag will be offered for exclusive pre-order to the U.S. and Europe online between May 3rd and May 6th, 2019.
