The shiny new Celine flagship in New York City opens today after nine months of renovations. At 650 Madison Avenue, the store merges art, architecture, and fashion to bring a curated shopping experience to visitors. Designed by Creative Director Hedi Slimane, the New York flagship is the first model for the new brutalist-inspired architectural concept, which will be implemented at all Celine stores worldwide.

Natural elements are juxtaposed throughout the space, creating an austere, yet elegant atmosphere. Wood, stone, and various metals bring an organic feel into the urban environment. Each element was carefully considered to balance the space, especially the natural stones used throughout the store.

Site-specific sculptures by James Balmforth and Jose Davila also elevate the store. Placed throughout the floor, the artwork complements the architecture and fashion with its contemporary feel and juxtaposition between hard and soft, substance, and subtlety. These artworks are also featured among specially designed furniture by Slimane, who wanted to take sculptural approach to the seating and surfaces throughout the store.

The fresh surroundings provide the perfect backdrop to showcase women’s and men’s ready-to-wear collections, along with Celine’s covetable accessories. The addition of the men’s collection in the New York flagship marks the beginning of its global debut in all major stores in Los Angeles, Paris, London, Milan, Shanghai, Beijing, and Tokyo, as the new design concept gets implemented at all locations.

The Celine concept store at 650 Madison Avenue, New York, NY 10022 is open now.
