In an awards ceremony often rife with glitzy gold and silver gowns and classic LBDs (there were still plenty of those, too), celebrities went with a more bold hue of choice for Hollywood’s biggest night: hot pink. Gemma Chan, Angela Bassett, Kasey Musgraves, Helen Mirren, Maya Rudolph, Linda Cardellini, and more all wore varying shades of pink for the 2019 Oscars red carpet and the grand finale of awards season.
First up, the Crazy Rich Asians star wore a breathtaking number from Valentino Haute Couture Spring 2019, cementing Chan’s status as a fashion darling to watch. Meanwhile, recent Album of the Year winner Musgraves showed up looking like a princess in a pink tulle Giambattista Valli gown, cinched with a silver bow at the waist. Cardellini, whose film Green Book is nominated for five awards, took a similar sartorial cue by wearing a statement-making tiered, bubblegum-hued Schiaparelli gown that earned the starlet both praise and comparisons to a loofah on Twitter.
Paulson went with a more subdued silhouette, opting for the finale look from Brandon Maxwell Fall/Winter 2019. Bassett, whose flair from the dramatics was not lost on her gown, wore a one-shouldered Reem Acra number with a large bow. Rudolph went with a custom Giambattista Valli floral-patterned, ruffled dress while Mirren stunned in a custom, hot pink Schiaparelli tulle gown.
But, perhaps Jason Momoa might have had the winning pink look of the night. The Game of Thrones actor wore a custom Fendi Couture tux, designed for him by Karl Lagerfeld, and accessorized with a pink scrunchie on his wrist. Lisa Bonet coordinated her husband in a muted pink, tea-length Fendi Couture gown as they walked arm-in-arm down the red carpet.
